Bringing a Little Magic to Christmas 

For the past five years, our practice, Shrewsbury Road Surgery has proudly supported the KidsOut Giving Tree Appeal, a wonderful initiative that brings joy and comfort to children living in refuge across the UK. What began as a small act of kindness has now become an annual tradition that our whole team looks forward to each Christmas.

Since first taking part, we have been invited to participate every year, and the appeal has become something truly special within our workplace. Each December, a Christmas tree is placed in our main reception area, decorated with KidsOut gift labels showing the age and interests of children in need. These labels are an invitation for staff – and even our patients – to help make a real difference.

Among our team, participation is warmly encouraged through internal messages and word of mouth. Staff members choose labels from the tree and purchase gifts suitable for that child’s age. The generosity and enthusiasm shown by everyone is always inspiring. What makes this initiative even more heartwarming is that many of our patients, seeing the tree in reception, choose to get involved as well. Without being asked, they take labels and return with carefully chosen presents for children they have never met.

This shared spirit of giving has created a strong sense of community within our practice. It is incredibly moving to see how a simple Christmas tree can bring people together for such an important cause.

Recently, we received a message from KidsOut thanking supporters for helping to deliver Christmas Toy Boxes to more than 5,636 children living in refuge. Reading how these gifts bring comfort, security, and happiness to children at such a difficult time in their lives was truly humbling. Knowing that our contributions helped create moments of joy and normality for vulnerable children reminds us why initiatives like this matter so much.

We are proud to support the vital work that KidsOut does and are inspired by the difference they make for children and families across the country. Taking part in the Giving Tree Appeal gives all of us a deep sense of satisfaction and purpose, especially at Christmas time.

It is a privilege to play even a small part in helping to bring a little magic to Christmas, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.
