Out of hours services this bank holiday Monday (25 May)
We will be closed this bank holiday Monday (25 May).
However, you can still see a GP through the Newham GP extended access service, get advice from NHS 111 or visit a pharmacist.
GPs are assuring residents across Newham that the local NHS is ‘open for business’ and ready to safely provide care to people who need it. It is important you do not wait if you need urgent medical help.
We know that some people are worried that they might be a burden to the NHS, or that they could contract COVID-19 if they seek help for an urgent medical issue at the moment, but services are very safe for patients to access.
If you have an urgent medical need, first visit NHS 111 online for advice. If you cannot access the internet, call 111.
GP appointments are available from 8am to 8pm this bank holiday Monday through the Newham GP extended access service. To access these appointments call 111 and an appointment will be offered if appropriate.
Community pharmacies will also be available this bank holiday weekend. Before visiting your local pharmacy, first check the opening hours on the NHS.UK website. When you visit you must comply with the social distancing measures in place to protect yourself and staff.
If it is a serious or life-threatening emergency, such as if you or a family member have symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, call 999 immediately. If you are told to go to hospital, it is important that you go.
In addition, if you are pregnant and are worried about your health or the health of your unborn baby, please contact your midwife or maternity team.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (a new continuous cough and/or a high temperature), you must stay at home for at least seven days. Anyone you live with should not leave home for 14 days. You can use the NHS 111 COVID-19 online service to check your symptoms and get more advice. Do not go to a GP practice, pharmacy or hospital if you have these symptoms - this is to help limit the spread of the virus.
GP APPOINTMENT ONLINE
ATTENTION: The telephone slot time booked will not be the time the GP will call you. If you have booked an appointment for the morning surgery the GP will call between 9AM-12PM, if a slot is booked for the afternoon surgery you will receive a call between 12PM and 6PM.
We are sorry for the inconvenience as this is due to the difference in GP workload during the coronovirus pandemic. Thank you for your co-operation.
As a Practice we are limiting face-to-face contact with patients during the coronavirus pandemic to allow the practice to concentrate on caring for patients who are most unwell.
We are keen to protect our staff as well as patients from unnecessary contact so we do not want people with flu-like symptoms to come to the practice.
Online GP consultations (PLEASE USE PATIENT ACCESS OR MY GP APP OR GO TO OUR WEBSITE TO HTTP://WWW.SHREWSBURYROADSURGERY.CO.UK FOR AN ONLINE CONSULTATION)
Face-to-face appointments will shift to ‘telephone and virtual’ consultations and all patients will be triaged by a medical professional to determine whether they need an appointment.
These are designed to reduce the spread of the virus and minimise the impact of COVID-19 on our most vulnerable and frail patients.
Following a telephone appointment if the doctor needs to see a patient arrangement will be made accordingly.
Telephone GP consultatations
If you are unable to use online consultations, you can still contact the surgery on 0300 033 7700 Option 1 to book a telephone consultation. For any other queries please choose the options 2 to 4 appropriately.
PATIENT SUPPORT – WORRIED ABOUT COVID-19
The Practice has put in place measures to ensure the safety and any social issues of our patients and staff while also ensuring services are available as normal.
If you need any support ranging from social or anxiety issues we have dedicated staff members to aid you in your concerns. Please ring the Surgery for more information.

For practice registered patients, many conditions can be dealt with quicker online.
Practice has introduced Online consultations and there is no login required. This is a quicker way for our patients to contact their GP practice without having to wait on the phone or take time out to come into the practice. Using a smartphone, tablet or computer, you can contact your practice about a new problem or an ongoing issue. You can ask questions or tell your GP about your symptoms. The practice will ensure your contact is dealt with by the right person in the team, helping ensure you are served as quickly and appropriately as possible. Sometimes this will mean you will need a phone call with the GP or nurse, or an appointment at the practice, and this will be informed as usual. All requests are responded to by the next working day.
Getting Started is Easy!
Simply click on this Link and in the search bar type the symptoms or query that you have. This will produce a series of choices and forms. Click on the relevant form and submit it.
If you cannot find a suitable form to select for your symptom or query, then select 'a General Health Query'. You will get a response by the next working day.
The Doctor will call you from our practice WITHELD number. If there is no response then the query will be closed and you will need to resubmit a new form .
If you have difficulty in completing the form our reception staff will be able to assist.
NOTE: Online consultations are an alternative service – it is still possible to do other things on the practice website such as seeing test results and your medical record, ordering a repeat prescription or booking an appointment.

The Practice & Role of the Doctors
We are a doctors practice working from a health centre in the northern half of Newham. We accept patients who live within our catchment area. We provide routine surgeries and a number of specialist clinics to promote better health by giving advice on diet, exercise, immunisation, smoking and alcohol consumption, as well as minor surgery and child health surveillance. We undertake routine screening for cervical. Clinics are also held for patients with long term conditions.
Our surgery is a purpose-built health centre and has wheelchair access and facilities for people with disabilities.
The consulting rooms, treatment rooms and WCs in our premises are accessible to people in wheelchairs. The practice has a facility of hearing loop. The practice will also be able to arrange for an interpreter for preferred language including British Sign Language.
