Routine appointments

To request a routine appointment:

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Routine GP appointments are twelve-minute slots. Please arrive for your appointment in good time. If you arrive after your appointment time, you may have to re-book. Otherwise you will have to wait until there is a gap in the session.

We only see patients for routine consultation, meaning an appointment has already been arranged with the GP or Nurse. Because of the number of people asking for medical attention, it is not usual for you to see a doctor the same day unless deemed appropriate by the clinician. We can usually offer you an appointment within two working days but you may wait longer if you have asked for a specific GP or Nurse.

Minor Illnesses can be booked with our Practice Clinical Pharmacists or with the Community Pharmacies Consultation Services.

Social Issues can be booked with our Practice Social Prescribers. Social Prescribing

Appointments can be pre-booked up to 4 weeks ahead and also Priority Appointments are available for Vulnerable and Elderly patients up to 4 weeks ahead. When making these appointments our Practice Staff who are Care Navigators will be able to offer the appointment accordingly depending on your medical issues/symptoms – i.e. Telephone consultation/Face to face appointments.

Extended hours (by appointment only) on Saturday between 8.30am and 12.30pm with the Nursing Team

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you are unable to keep your appointment or no longer need it, please inform the surgery as soon as possible. This will enable us to offer your appointment to another patient. Text reminders are sent for the appointment.

A large number of appointments each month are wasted due to cancelling too close to the appointment time or due to ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNA), i.e. the patient does not turn up for the appointment and does not contact the surgery in advance to cancel/change appointment. The effects of these are:

– an increase in the waiting time for appointments;

– frustration for both staff and patients;

– a waste of resources;

– a potential risk to the health of the patient.

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

Patients are requested to telephone before 11.00am if a visit is required that day. Emergency visits only will be arranged after that time. Please give the receptionist as much information as possible to enable the doctor to allocate priority to house calls. Please remember that several patients can be seen at the surgery in the time that is takes to do a home visit. Home visits are made at the discretion of the doctors, based on medical need. Lack of transport is not a reason to request a home visit

Appointments that are cancelled within 1 hours or less of the scheduled time will be classed as a DNA and recorded in the clinical system.

If a patient fails to cancel a pre-booked appointment as above, or fails to attend, on at least three occasions in the last 6 months, a first warning letter will be sent to the patient, advising them of the disruption and effect on patients and staff. This is sent with approval of the patient’s named GP.

If the patient again fails to cancel a pre-booked appointment as above, or fails to attend, a second warning letter will be sent. This is also sent with approval of the patient’s named GP.

If the patient fails to cancel a pre-booked appointment as above, or fails to attend, after receiving a second warning letter, the matter will be discussed at a practice meeting and a majority agreement will be reached as to whether the patient will be removed from the practice list, or allowed to remain with possible restrictions on booking appointments. In either case, a third and final warning letter will be issued.

Warning letters are valid for a period of 12 months. Removal based on warnings greater than 12 months old will be invalid – in this case a further formal warning and period of grace will be required.
